Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) visits BAK

On 2 and 3 December 2024, the Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK) welcomed a delegation from the Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT). Exchanges focussed on raising awareness and prevention in relation to corruption.

The delegation from Lithuania visited BAK as part of the EU-funded project ‘Best Anticorruption Practice Exchange’ (BACPE) to exchange experiences on methods of raising awareness and prevention in the fight against corruption.

At the beginning, the visitors were given an overview of the organisational structure, working methods and legal basis of the Federal Bureau. The afternoon of the first day was dedicated to awareness-raising and prevention work. Experts from BAK explained, among other things, the Corruption Scale and the Corruption Theatre – two concepts that BAK implements as part of awareness-raising workshops at schools. They also exchanged views on aspects of basic research. The representatives from Lithuania gave a presentation on the prevention activities of their service.

The second day started with a visit to the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Laxenburg. In the afternoon, BAK's various training programmes and its ‘train-the-trainer’ approach were on the agenda. The delegation from Lithuania also presented its activities in this area.

Specialiuju tyrimu tarnyba (STT)

The Lithuanian Special Investigation Service (STT) is a statutory law enforcement agency that develops and implements measures to prevent corruption in addition to uncovering and investigating corruption offences. The service also plays a mediating role in bringing together anti-corruption measures taken by Lithuanian authorities and the public.

STT – just like BAK – is part of the anti-corruption networks European Partners against Corruption / European contact-point network against corruption (EPAC/EACN). With the support of the EU, these networks finance the ‘Best Anticorruption Practice Exchange’ project (BACPE), an exchange programme for its member authorities, which includes the topic of ‘Anti-corruption awareness raising’. The visit by STT to BAK took place as part of the BACPE project.
