State Secretary visits IACA

On 30 January 2018, Karoline Edtstadler, State Secretary at the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior, visited the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) in Laxenburg for the first time. Together with the BAK representative, Director Andreas Wieselthaler, they discussed the government’s new National Anti-Corruption Strategy.

"For me as State Secretary at the Ministry of the Interior, this topic has top priority; corruption is liable to undermine the functionality of any state under the rule of law and is thus liable to compromise domestic security", said Ms Edtstadler.

During the meeting at IACA, the State Secretary introduced the National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS) enacted by the Council of Ministers on 31 January 2018. They also discussed other measures necessary to prevent and fight corruption.

The National Anti-Corruption Strategy constitutes the framework for all measures set for the prevention of and fight against corruption. All relevant stakeholders contributed to the NACS, of public administration, civil society, and the economy. The Strategy now serves as basis for an action plan containing concrete measures; the action plan is to be adapted to current developments on a biennial basis.
