Kick-off Conference of the "EU Integrity” Project

On 21 and 22 June 2018, the international Kick-off Conference of the "EU Integrity” project took place in Vienna, with approximately 80 participants from over 20 EU countries. The project’s overall objective is to facilitate a multilateral, constructive dialogue and wide-ranging exchange of experiences and best practices between different sectors in order to sustainably promote integrity in the EU.

The Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK) under the leadership of Director-General Hermann Feiner has already done some important preparatory work at national level and obtained various expert opinions. They were used to draft the project proposal that was submitted to the European Commission in March. The BAK’s project partners are the State Criminal Police Office North Rhine-Westphalia (LKA NRW), the Directorate General for Anti-Corruption of the Romanian Ministry of Interior (DGA) and the French Anti-Corruption Agency (AFA).

The Kick-off Conference was the starting point for the international project work. Representatives of the private sector, public administration, science and civil society contributed their experience and expertise during key-note speeches and discussions in order to further develop the project. The primary goal is to generate synergy effects through the cooperation of people with different professional backgrounds and work priorities. Aside from meetings of several Working Groups (WGs) led by the project partners, the exchange of experiences of stakeholders from different sectors will be promoted, most notably through the creation of an interactive platform.

The conference also included some dynamic practical workshops to determine the best and most effective approach to facilitate this exchange of experiences across sector boundaries.

Based on these results, the WGs will now be set up and the first meetings and international exchange are expected to take place by the end of this year.
