2017 OSCE Annual Meeting of Heads of Law Enforcement Departments

From 12 to 13 July 2017, the 17th OSCE Annual Meeting of Heads of Law Enforcement Departments took place in the Hofburg Conference Centre in Vienna. The event, entitled "Police-Related Projects and Programmes", was organized by the Strategic Police Matters Unit of the OSCE Transnational Threats Department.

The meeting was attended, inter alia, by high-ranking representatives of the OSCE, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), UNODC, Interpol, Europol, the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the European Police College (CEPOL), and the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA). They explained the functioning of their institutions and described current projects. Furthermore, they particularly highlighted the importance of international cooperation. The topics addressed ranged from police training programmes with specific focuses (e.g. respect for human rights in the investigation of terrorism cases), various gender issues relating to the field of law enforcement, and the fight against threats such as terrorism, drug trafficking or cybercrime, to the Online Information System POLIS and the fight against corruption. In this context, a member of the BAK’s Unit for International Cooperation presented the BAK’s national approaches to preventing and combating corruption.
