International Cooperation

Slovenian delegation visits the BAK

The Director of this Austrian Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK) welcomed an eight-member delegation of the Commission for the prevention of corruption (KPK) from Slovenia on 15 March 2023.

The idea to intensify bilateral cooperation between the two anti-corruption authorities had arisen during the founding conference of the European Network for Public Ethics (ENPE) and at meetings of European Partners against Corruption (EPAC) and European contact-point network against corruption (EACN). The intensification of bilateral cooperation was primarily to be achieved through the direct exchange of experience.

Eight experts from Slovenia (Prevention, Education, Whistleblower protection/Whistleblower platform, Public relations and International cooperation) took part in this first meeting on 15 March 2023. Initially, the Director of the BAK, Otto Kerbl, gave an overview of the organisational structure, the working methods and the legal basis of the Austrian Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK). In addition to ongoing projects in the field of corruption prevention and education, the priority topics of the meeting included whistleblower protection and the implementation of whistleblower platforms as well as strategic external communication.

Commission for the prevention of corruption

The Slovenian Commission for the prevention of corruption (KPK) is an autonomous state body that exercises its powers independently and carries out its legally defined tasks within the framework and on the basis of the relevant Slovenian legislation. The Commission is not an investigative and prosecutorial body in the framework of criminal proceedings, but it has certain executive, supervisory and investigative powers (administration).
