International Cooperation
EU network against corruption
On 3 October 2024, the European Commission hosted the second plenary meeting of the EU network against corruption in Brussels. The Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK) was represented on site.
Launched in May 2023, the EU network against corruption acts as a forum that provides a platform for international organisations, EU agencies, national authorities, researchers and civil society to share best practices in the fight against corruption and to promote and strengthen cooperation across the EU.
Last week's plenary session began with a review of the European Commission's work in this area over the past year, including the publication of the fifth Rule of Law Report in July 2024 and the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Partnership Forum. Representatives from various anti-corruption networks in the EU then presented their current projects and future activities with the aim of creating synergies. A particular focus was placed on the proposed EU Anti-Corruption Directive and the efficient assessment of corruption risks at national level. The results of an external study on high-risk areas of corruption were also presented. Luca Mak, Head of the BAK's International Cooperation Unit, was present and took the opportunity to intensify the dialogue with experts from international authorities and civil society.
The results of this second plenary session will support the European Commission in developing practical guidelines in various areas of common interest and in drafting the first EU anti-corruption strategy.
