Tenth Annual Conference and General Assembly of the IAACA

From 22 to 24 January 2019, the tenth Annual Conference and General Assembly of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) was held at the Vienna International Centre under the chairmanship of Dr. Ali Bin Fetais Al-Marri, President of the IAACA and Head of the Office of the Attorney General of Qatar.

The IAACA was established in 2006 and represents around 300 law enforcement agencies as well as prevention and independent anti-corruption authorities.

The first day of the event was reserved for the General Assembly, which adopted, inter alia, a new version of the IAACA Statutes. On the following days, panels on various topics of prevention of and fight against corruption took place in line with the title "15 Years of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC): Accomplishments and Prospects". In the discussion chaired by Dimitri Vlassis, representative of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), on the topic "The UNCAC as framework for achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", the Director of the Federal Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAK), Andreas Wieselthaler, spoke about a number of efforts taken by the BAK in the European and national context. For example, he presented the initiatives "SIENA for Anti-Corruption Authorities" and "EU Integrity", the Austria-wide Network of Integrity Officers, the BAK App, and "Fit4Compliance", a board game about values. Following this panel, the Director of the BAK and the Head of the Iranian General Inspectorate held a bilateral discussion on the potential for future cooperation.

This three-day event, which was attended by high-ranking representatives of public authorities from over 60 nations, international and European organisations, regional associations and non-governmental organisations, intensified the exchange of information and experience and reinforced the excellent international reputation the BAK enjoys.
